The Daily Grind

These photos don’t have anything to do with this post, but I think that they are a lot of fun, and hopefully they’ll bring a smile to your face today.

Are there times when you feel overwhelmed at the task ahead of you (and behind you)? When it seems like no matter what, the fire will overcome you and there is no way out of the heat?

I am tired. I am sick. And lately have been feeling so overwhelmed with the years of intense work ahead of me as we put David through nursing school.

Going from working 10 hours a week to a full 40+ hours a week is wearing my body down. And I can see the crash looming. Every night I come home from work too exhausted to cook, to exhausted to make dinner for us, and too tired to clean. My body is exhausted, and my spirit is exhausted. The weekends have become a time of lots of sleep and lots of rest to prepare for the week ahead.

One afternoon this past week on my lunch break my heart was heavy and sad. I asked the Lord to provide scripture that would encourage me and help me to see what He is doing.

I opened my Bible, and was directed to the passage of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel. I’ll be honest I was hoping for something along the lines of a good Psalm to lift my spirits (do you ever do that when you start reading scripture?.. Oh lord, please do not direct me to the book of Numbers! ha). But God, in His wisdom, had something else in mind.

I read, and re-read the story of the angel appearing in the HOT HOT furnace with these 3 brave men of God. Closing my Bible I knew this was exactly what I needed. God did not abandon these guys. He did not let the flame burn them. And He will not (and has not) let the flame burn me. He is doing a good work, and will deliver me from the furnace.. and I pray that while I am in this fire..and feel like I have been walking through this fire for so long now…others will see Him standing beside me and recognize His glory.

So, over the past several days when I feel too tired to keep trucking, I remember this. I remember the way He brought a Nation to recognize His Glory through 3 brave men. I remember how God has promised that He will not abandon us. I remember that He rescued Shadrach, Meshach and Abedengo from the flames. And I hope you can remember it as well. That He won’t, and He hasn’t abandoned you. And He is able to deliver.

I read this article from Relevant Magazine about the spiritual importance of space. It’s pretty great, and I think it’d be a good read for any of you who can relate to how I’m feeling.

” For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in it; Thanksgiving and the voice of melody”. – Isaiah 51:3
