A Trip to Michigan

This past weekend (Saturday-Tuesday) I flew up to Michigan to see some dear friends of mine. My friend Katie currently lives in Washington state with her husband who is a minister and their two kiddos. I hadn't seen her in 1.5 years! So when she told me she was going to visit her family in Michigan at the end of the month, I found a flight as soon as I could!

It just so happens that we are really good friends with her brother and sister in law, Ben and Lenae, so I got to spend time with them and their sweet 6 month old daughter too.
I am sharing photos taken with my iphone and edited with vsco cam.. I took about a million photos with my DSLR that I'll be sharing with you when I get them all edited!
If I had enough time and money and energy I'd fly somewhere every weekend. I love to travel so much. .especially when I'm traveling to friends:). It's a contagious little bug I catch. Hopefully once David is a nurse we will have time and money to be able to travel more!
It was so nice to get away. The stillness of the snow, and the peacefulness of an old barn house was the perfect place to reawaken friendships. I watched Katie, a friend from the beginning of college, mother her two children beautifully and instill the character of Christ in her oldest son. It was beautiful.
We spent our time around the house, enjoying each other's company. Ben and Lenae live a simple life, without a tv or the internet, and reminded me why David and I live the way we do. I want to be more intentional with my time spent at home.. reading more and creating things with my hands when I can.  It was really cool to see the way they are making choices to raise their children away from harmful chemicals, streaming media, and over stimulating toys.. allowing their natural creativity to flourish. I was introduced to Taproot Magazine and have fallen in love!
They live in an old farmhouse with lots of land, several barns and a huge chicken coop. I was pretty mesmerized with all of the cool features that were on their property. I kept thinking, " I wish I lived here so these places could become my photography studio!"
Lenae is also a celiac, so traveling there was easy peasy as far as food stuff goes. Her sister was kind enough to make us tiramisu  that was gluten, dairy, egg free. It was delicious and I am pretty sure I ate at least a piece every day. It's not often that I indulge in sweet treats.

Ever see a husky/blue healer mix? I now have and they are gorgeous!
It was so nice to be able to step away from everything. I know my soul needed the rest.
I hope you all have a wonderful Friday and weekend! Do you have any fun adventures planned?

  1. how wonderful does this sound! I can't believe your friend eats and lives the way you do, so much. it's almost like she is just one step beyond you guys, and I'm sure that is super cool to have.
traveling each weekend would be great! I think airports, hectic as they are, are the most exciting places.

here's to more trips this year!
