It has been such a treat getting to know Kemble the past few weeks. He is a talented artist, developing his talent through the medium of stamp making. He makes whimsical stamps, but also takes custom orders if you are looking for something for your business or personal use.
1. Tell us a little bit about you as a person.
I was born and raised in a small southern town, and happen to still be there! I'm going to school (GaTech) and studying Computer Science, but my real passion lies with art, building tangible things with my hands, and spending as much time rummaging around outdoors! Beyond art and computer science I retain a great zeal for all types of southern comestibles. Fried green tomatoes, grits, sweet tea, greens, and gravy make up a kings supper, in my humble opinion. I'm the oldest of 5 - I'm about to turn 21 in February! Two other tidbits, I love playing guitar and running! That's a fairly succinct snapshot of who I am. :)
2. Tell us a little bit about your craft and what prompted you to start hoot owl press?
I've always loved stamps, they have such an old-fashioned and whimsical feel to them. Ever since I started tinkering with computers I've been drawn to digital art, especially logo design and branding. Ever since I was 13 I've been coming up with fictitious 'Companies' just so I could design logos and websites for them. Eventually, this turned into a real job for me. Earlier this summer I wanted some rubber stamps for a logo of mine, and instead of stopping with one stamp I figured out how to produce them... And here we are! The name Hoot Owl Press comes from my long standing affinity for owls!
My 'Non-Plussed' owl has always been my favorite - he has actually become my logo! He is content, non-excitable, and rather bemused with the world he observes. I attempt to embody his emotions on a day-to-day basis when I get to wrapped up in life.
4.What can we look forward to with hoot owl press?
Well, I'm actually looking to start another sister stamp company called "Standard Stamp Co." I'll be selling the same high quality stamps, just targeting a slightly different audience! Hoot Owl Press is very whimsical, and I'm aiming for Standard Stamp Co. to have a more industrial/vintage feel. Hoot Owl Press will continue to make whimsy little critters and custom stamps for folks who need them.
